When Potomac Digitek first opened its doors in 1994, the world of websites was wildly different than it is today. We started by designing screensavers (if you can believe it)! We went through designing websites for small monitors to very large ones, from teeny mobile screens to much bigger tablets. We can now view websites on smart TVs and even our watches, for goodness sake!
Just like you, we’ve been changing with the times. If 2020 showed the world anything, it’s that we have to be ready to adapt.
Change is constant, right? So your website should be up to the task.
But keep in mind that adapting doesn’t have to mean a complete overhaul. While I would love for our clients to completely redesign their websites every three to four years (as is typically recommended) the reality is that budgets and other projects also have to be factored in.
So, what can you do?
Well, you’re likely using social media and email blasts to push news updates and event registration deadlines out to your members and customers now, right? So why not move that really prominent Latest News section on your home page down toward the bottom and make use of the space at the top for something more flashy and exciting! Maybe a cool video about an upcoming meeting?
Or how about replacing those social media feeds on your site (where you’re only pulling in your own news) with ones that are from the industry? That will certainly give a boost to your search engine rankings as those bring in new content constantly.
So keep in mind that even the small changes can make a difference. And constantly putting energy and effort into your website can yield great returns.
